YEAR 9-10 TEACHER & STUDENT RESOURCES
For teachers to implement effective learning activities that are both inclusive, engaging and relevant to the curriculum, it is critical that a comprehensive collection of both instructional and student-facing resources are developed to support the diverse needs of all learners (D’Agostino et al., 2021; Aina et al., 2023). These digital and physical multimodal resources allow both teachers and students to have access to readily available and curriculum aligned materials that relate to the practical and theoretical skills and knowledge of media studies to enhance both the teaching and learning experiences inside and outside of the classroom.
AT1: PHOTOGRAPHY JOURNAL RESOURCES
Camera 101 PowerPoint (Boyd, 2024)
This PowerPoint was developed with the objective of teaching students about the basics of photography when using a Digital Single-lens Reflex (DSLR) camera. This PowerPoint is an instrument of explicit instruction used throughout week 1, linking theory to practical exercises. This resource can be used as both a teacher facing and flipped learning resource, by allowing students ongoing access throughout the unit through Compass.

Knite (2024) Codes and Conventions Booklet
The Media Knite’s (2024) Codes and Conventions Booklet will be used throughout the learning sequence, particularly being both an instructional resource for the explicit teaching of codes and conventions of the Camera, along with a student facing resource where students can refer to the document in both individual and group work applications. This resource is crucial in scaffolding learners understanding when developing relevant vocabulary and working towards both VCAMAM042 and VCAMAM043 (ACARA, 2015).
The Folio Society (2006) Book of the 100 Greatest Photographs
The Folio Society’s (2006) Book of the 100 Greatest Photographs, is a critical resource in providing students with high quality, historical and contemporary photographs when analysing media. Photographs will be selected by the teacher and provided to the class when scaffolding media analysis throughout week 1 and 2).
Axis of Action (n.d.) Analysing Media Codes and Conventions
Axis of Action’s (n.d.) analysing Media Codes and Conventions website page will be used in conjunction with both the Media Knite (n.d.) and The Folio Society’s (2006) resources as a student facing and accessible guide to analysing media and considering the codes and conventions used.
AT2: CONCEPTUAL PORTRAITURE RESOURCES
Lucas Simões PowerPoint (Boyd, 2025)
The Lucas Simões PowerPoint has been developed as a student-facing instructional resource, providing learners with examples of Simões’ work showing both digital and manual manipulation of photographs to create engaging conceptual portraits. The PowerPoint enacts High Impact Teaching Strategies (DET, 2020) such as questioning and required explicit instruction from the teacher. Furthermore, the PowerPoint leads students to a collaborative activity to apply their learning.
